Branimir Dolenec was born on 29th July 1958 in Koprivnica, northern Croatia. After attending Rade Koncar school, known today as School of Electrotechnics, and graduating as an electrotechnician, he worked as Technical Machinery Buyer until the Croatian War of Independence in 1990. From 1992 till 2007 he was Insurance Sales Director. Having painted and drawn caricatures since 1980, in 2002 he opened his own atelier in Koprivinica, where he represented a large circle of artists from the Podravina region and organized a succession of artist’s colonies and exhibitions. In 2005, Branimir began illustrating his friends’ poetry books and started writing himself. To date, he illustrated 15 books, of which the most important is Most beautiful garden’s secrets, by Lidija Komes. In 2011, Branimir Dolenec started illustrating children’s picture booklets and in August he published his first booklet, Koprivko and the Secret of the Black Hole, in collaboration with Professor Martina Trescec. Koprivko later developed into a significant project, which today has twelve printed titles. After issuing the second title, Branimir became the head of the project, in charge of texts and illustrations, and ideated a line of additional products linked to Koprivko. In 2014, Branimir met Magister of Sciences Mrs. Dubravka Volenec, and together they started several projects intended for the education of children of pre-school and school age. The collaboration with Mrs. Volenec resulted in the production of two picture booklets, Little sparrow Prhko and Little friends bees. Since 2013, Branimir Dolenec has been visiting schools and nurseries as a guest author, and he worked in more than 200 workshops in schools and nurseries in north-western Croatia. Koprivko gained more than 500.000 readers in Croatia and has a wide success among Croatian citizens around the world (Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Austria, Italy, Germany, etc.). In 2018, in collaboration with Gordana Evacic, Branimir embarked on a new project, the ecological picture booklets Koprivko-Eko, aiming to educate children on the importance of recycling. He produced two plays on the same theme, and the shows have been seen by more than 10,000 children in Croatia.
